It’s now 5.19am and I feel very awake. She woke up for a feed at 4.30am and didn’t latch off until half an hour later.
I think what made me wake up was the smell emanating from her diaper. The smell of pee was really strong and when I put my hand on it, it was full and squidgy. It isn’t always like that, sometimes she pees towards the latter part of the morning, closer to 7am. Anyhow, after thinking on it a minute, I decided that I couldn’t conscienc-ably return to sleep.
So I grabbed a fresh diaper, opened it up. Diaper cream, unscrewed the cap. A piece of wet wipe from the dispenser. Everything beside her and I changed her diaper rapidly. She was in deep sleep and didn’t move until I lifted her legs to slip the fresh diaper underneath. A bit of a stretch of the arms and legs then she was back breathing deeply again.
I didn’t want to disturb or wake her so her onesie remains unbuttoned.
Her arms and legs are outstretched and she is sleeping at an angle taking up two thirds of the bed. I’ve been relegated to a narrow strip between her and the drop off into the corridor. Maybe that’s why I can’t sleep now.
